International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste at FoodSpace – Our Commitment to Zero Food Waste

This year on the 29th of September 2024, we recognise UN International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW). We stand in solidarity with global efforts to reduce food waste, embracing our ethos of zero food waste and loyal to local. IDAFLW is a crucial reminder of the urgent need to address the issue of food loss and waste, which sees nearly 40% of the world’s food go uneaten.

Our commitment to sustainable food practices aligns with the goals of IDAFLW. Under the culinary leadership of Conor Spacey, we have cultivated a culture that prioritises local sourcing and seasonal ingredients, ensuring that every dish we create minimises waste and maximises flavour. Our approach is simple yet impactful: by working closely with local farmers and producers, we craft menus that are not only reflective of the season but also reduce our environmental footprint.

Beyond our kitchens, FoodSpace actively engages in the global dialogue on food systems and sustainability. Conor’s involvement with the UN and his work in promoting sustainable practices, including his very own book “WASTED”, underscores our commitment to reducing food waste on a broader scale. This year, we partnered with the ‘Waste to Wonder Worldwide’ initiative and contributed to the Gambia cookery school project, which empowers local communities by providing culinary training with a focus on sustainable practices. By participating in these discussions and initiatives, we aim to inspire both our team and our followers to adopt more sustainable practices in their everyday live.

Call to Action

IDAFLW is a call to action. At FoodSpace, we believe that small, consistent changes can lead to significant impacts. Whether its through our innovative pop-up events, partnerships with regenerative farmers, or the everyday choices we make in our kitchens, we are dedicated to creating a food system that values every ingredient and minimises waste. As we join the global community in recognising this important day, we reaffirm our commitment to sustainable food practices.

Together, we can make a difference – one meal, one ingredient, and one choice at a time.
