“Eat an Apple Day” is more than a date on the calendar. It’s part of our ongoing promise: to celebrate local agriculture, support Irish growers, and bring wholesome, seasonal produce into every dish.
Every apple tells a story — of soil, care, heritage, and freshness. This year for “Eat an Apple Day 2025”, we are delighted to shine a spotlight on our collaboration with Keelings, and on the local apple growers who continue to bring the freshest Irish fruit to our tables.
“Keelings Select is proud to work with FoodSpace. For nearly 100 years, three generations of the Keelings family have been growing fresh, quality produce in North County Dublin, committed to offering the tastiest and freshest fruit available. Their apple-growing journey began in the early 1940s, when they planted 139 acres of orchards. Today, Keelings grows over 4 million apples annually in their Irish orchards — including Irish eating apples and Irish Bramley. Harvest begins in late August and early September, and these apples are picked carefully by hand to ensure consumers enjoy their freshest flavour.”
At FoodSpace, we believe in sourcing fresh, seasonal produce as locally as possible. We follow a “50-mile radius” sourcing principle wherever feasible, working closely with suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability, ethical practices, and community. This “Eat an Apple Day”, we are proud to be using Irish apples from Keelings, offering a crisp, nutrient-packed snack at lunch or a healthy pick-me-up in the 3pm slump. Apples are rich in fibre, antioxidants, and potassium — small but mighty ingredients for good health.
Laura Doherty, our Development Chef, says: “Apples are one of the most versatile ingredients we use in our kitchens. From adding freshness to salads, to baking comforting crumbles, or even bringing natural sweetness to savoury dishes, local Irish apples give us flavour and nutrition while supporting sustainable farming.”
We invite our FoodSpace community — our chefs, front-of-house teams, and especially our customers — to enjoy these apples, knowing they’ve been grown with care and picked by hand.
