On 13th May, our very own Grainne Carberry ran the River Moy Half Marathon in Ballina Co Mayo, west coast of Ireland. Why? Well, a couple of reasons. One, because of the training it means she can pretty much eat anything without feeling guilty. Two, for something to focus on outside of work and for her own health and wellbeing.

As Grainne says ‘it’s very easy to get caught up in day-to-day work and to not switch off. Having something to train for keeps me focussed by getting out in the fresh air in the early morning before going about my day or in the evening after a long day on the road.’ Grainne already likes to plays basketball and weight train at the gym for strength, but the half marathon was a key milestone to a bucket list item, a full marathon.

What’s next for her? The Dublin Rock & Roll half marathon in August (which she hopes to run in under two hours) and then a series of 40-50km gale force sea to summit events involving biking, mountain and road running. This is all before facing the full marathon. She wants to get the rest of her FoodSpace colleagues involved – watch this space.
