Apples were one of the first fruit crops cultivated by man. They are also one of the most popular fruits — and for good reason.
They’re an exceptionally healthy fruit with many research-backed benefits. They contain useful amounts of dietary fiber and Vitamin C.

Irish Apples

Simple Irish Apple Cake

Ingredients:

  • 225g Irish Self Raising Flour – please look for Irish flour that is grown and milled in Ireland
  • 175g real Irish Butter at room temperature
  • 175g Caster Sugar
  • 3 medium free range Eggs
  • 1 tsp of Cinnamon
  • 3 seasonal Irish apples peeled & cored, remember to keep your peels and cores to make a fantastic cultured vinegar

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C/375°F/Gas 5 and
    line a 2lb loaf tin.
  2. In a mixer or hand mixer Beat butter and sugar together. Slowly add the eggs, one at a time, beating well.
  3. Stir in the sieved flour and cinnamon.
  4. Roughly chop the apples and fold into the mixture, then put into your loaf tin.
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes approx. Check with a small knife or skewer to make sure it’s baked.
    Allow to stand in tin for about 5 minutes, then turn onto
    a wire tray and leave to cool.
  6. I love it with whipped cream or custard
